Part 1 of 4 – Why Are You Really Looking for a Home Business Opportunity?

Home Business Opportunity

Home Business Opportunity

There are many reasons people look for a home business opportunity. Some of those are:

  1. You can do what you love: Most people have something that they really love to do. Getting paid for doing what you love is a dream come true.
  2. You get to be the boss: No more working your fingers to the bone for someone else. You will be the boss and you will reap the rewards.
  3. You want more time with your family: No more missing out on weekends, family occasions or holidays. You will be home for every special moment.
  4. No more wasting time and money commuting: With the high price of gas and the average commute to work being 16 miles one way, lasting almost a half-hour, just think of the time and money you will save when you work from home! (And on average — not at its worst, but just on average — workers estimate that traffic congestion adds a half-hour a day to their drive, 15 minutes each way. That’s an impressive time suck. However, there are also some specific reasons people look for a network marketing/mlm home business opportunity, and the top four are:

  1. They want to make money
  2. They want to save money on products or services
  3. They want meet new people
  4. They want to experience personal growth and development

These reasons alone are good enough to say “I’m ready to find my own home business opportunity.”

So, let’s take a look at reason #1.

Making Money With a Network Marketing/MLM Home Business Opportunity

There are generally three groups of people looking to make money with a network marketing/mlm home business opportunity. They are:

  1. People looking for fast money
  2. People interested in building a long term business with money coming in long after they have “retired”
  3. People interested in investing in the product itself

Group 1: People looking for fast money with a network marketing/mlm home business opportunity

If you are looking to make fast money with your network marketing/mlm home business opportunity, there is a possibility to do this, but there are some cautions. For this to work you must be a well trained salesperson. You must have built the relationship with your clients, customers and all sorts of people. People must trust what you say and will trust whatever you are selling. You may sell the product itself (sometimes, in large quantities), or you may sell the opportunity (the money making part of it) or both. Are you this kind of person?

And, if you are just looking to make fast money, please read my earlier post on identifying what your true goals are when it comes to money.

Fast money is not impossible, but it could be only short term considering the facts that 80–90% of people in the world are not suited for sales. If a salesperson sponsors a non-salesperson, would the non-salesperson be able to do the same thing as his upline? Does that mean that you would spend most of your time looking for the 10-20% of people who are sales types?

Grop 2: People wanting to build money for the long term with a network marketing/mlm home business opportunity

Building money for the long term does not have to mean that you won’t see money right away. It differs from company to company. But as a general rule of thumb, it involves building a network or an organization.

Zig Ziglar says this about building a large organization: “You will get whatever you want in life if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” In other words, if you help enough downline members get enough downline members, you are on the road to network marketing financial freedom. The key is to help others.

Group 3: People who invest in network marketing/mlm companies

If you are in this group, you want to invest in the company not to make money through retailing or building a network, but rather by investing in the product or — depending on the company — appreciation of their assets.

An example of investing in the product: If you believe that the product will appreciate in value over time, you will buy the product, hold on to it, and later sell it for a large profit. This is sort of like selling old comic books.

Investing in the company in hope that their assets will appreciate is like buying stock in the company. If you have built a relationship with the company owners, this can happen even if the company is not publically traded.

We’ll look at the other three reasons that are good enough to say “I’m ready to find my own home business opportunity” in future posts.
